Dr. John S. Whorff, OD, earned the degree of Doctor of Optometry from the oldest optometry school in the country, the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from California State University, Stanislaus and earned his Ph.D. in Zoology in 1992 from Texas A&M University where he obtained significant funding from Mobil Oil and the state of Texas to develop imaging software and published several papers.
Before starting his lab, Dr. Whorff was recognized for his excellence in teaching by the Biology Department at Texas A&M where he taught in the Freshman Biology Honors Program. He has been a member of both the American Optometric and the Texas Optometric Society for over 25 years. He was elected to full membership of the Sigma Xi Research Society after successful publication of his first two academic papers.
Dr. Whorff is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and a Diplomat of the American Board of Optometry. He is certified as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist by the Texas Optometry Board. He treats a wide range of conditions, but has a special interest in glaucoma and diabetes. He often speaks on various eye care topics, especially diabetic support groups.
