Carey Prater, OD, FAAO

Carey G. Prater, OD, is a native of Texas and completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, College Station. Dr. Prater was granted early acceptance into the University of Houston College of Optometry due to his outstanding academic achievements. He completed his doctor of optometry degree in 1980, graduating Summa Cum Laude and was recognized as the valedictorian of his graduating class. Upon graduation, he remained in the Houston area as a clinical instructor at the University of Houston College of Optometry.

Dr. Prater subsequently joined the Mann Eye clinic and Surgery Center in Humble, Texas as the Optometric Clinical Directory and served concurrently as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He then completed the rigorous application and exam process for becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Prater began serving for several years as clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. In addition, he has delivered numerous continuing education lectures including ones at the University of Houston College of Optometry, the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, American Academy of Optometry, and at Fellowship of Christian Optometry.

Dr. Prater assisted in the development of an eye clinic in Corozal, Belize that has continued to serve people from Belize, Mexico, and Guatemala. To relax, Dr. Prater enjoys fishing, especially fly fishing. Dr. Prater is a therapeutic optometrist providing Low Vision services to the patients of EyeCare Associates of East Texas.
