Carey G. Prater, O.D., F.A.A.O
Dr. Prater joined our staff of ophthalmologist and optometrists
on September 1, 2000 and though he is new to our team, he
is not new to the Tyler area, having practiced optometry in
Tyler since 1987. A native of Texas, Dr. Prater did his undergraduate
work at Texas A&M University and was granted early acceptance
into the University of Houston School of Optometry due to
his outstanding undergraduate academic achievements. He completed
his degree of optometry in 1980, graduating Summa Cum Laude
and was recognized as the valedictorian of his optometric
graduating class. Upon graduation, he remained in the Houston
area as a clinical instructor at the University of Houston
College of Optometry. He joined the Mann Eye Clinic and Surgery
Center in 1980 serving as the Optometric Clinical Director.
He continued his role as an adjunct assistant professor at
the University of Houston College of Optometry after his move
to Tyler in 1987. He was named adjunct assistant professor
at Northeast Oklahoma University College of Optometry in 1992
and appointment to the National Board of Examiners and Optometry
as a Clinical Examiner in 1994.
