Carol
McCuistion, O.D.
A native Texan, Dr. Carol McCuistion grew up in the West
Texas town of Morton, graduating as Valedictorian of Morton
High School. She had double majors in Home Economics Education
and Interior Design at Texas Technological College, graduation
with honors.
For a total of nine years Dr. McCuistion taught Home Economics
and Art, first in El Paso and Dallas, then for the Department
of Defense Overseas Dependent's Schools in Morocco and Germany.
She finished her last two years of teaching in Houston while
preparing to enter optometry school.
At the University of Houston College of Optometry she was
active in student affairs and was recognized as Outstanding
Second Year Student by her classmates. She graduated from
optometry school in 1982 and practiced Optometry in San Antonio
for six months before starting a new practice in east Fort
Worth. There she became involved in the community and enjoyed
20 years of private practice. She was active in the Tarrant
County Optometric Society, serving as treasurer and president.
After selling her thriving optometric practice and moving
to Canton, in VanZandt County, "Dr. Carol" and her family
settled into life in that small East Texas community. When
asked to join Eye Care Associates of East Texas by taking
over the satellite office in Jacksonville, she admits she
had to stop and think before agreeing to make another move.
She is taking over Dr. John Thigpen's practice and is looking
forward to working with his patients and becoming active
in Jacksonville and Cherokee County.
Dr. McCuistion's major time commitment outside her optometric
practice is raising her two daughters. Her daughters, Andrea
and Suzi will be attending Nichols Intermediate School and
Jacksonville Middle School. They are indeed their mother's
pride and joy. They expect school and church activities will
keep them very busy, and are excited to be starting a new
life in Jacksonville.
